Role of the Citizen Advisory Committee

The citizen advisory committee will play an important role throughout the Scatter Creek project. Members of the committee will:

  • Act as liaisons between the community and the county health department.
  • Learn about the area and the risks posed to the drinking water supply and aquifer by septic systems.
  • Examine groundwater contamination likely to occur if properties develop under current land use and septic system regulations, using groundwater monitoring and modeling.
  • Determine if the amount of groundwater contamination is likely to cause public health concern or violate water quality standards.
  • Work with county staff to evaluate options to protect drinking water.
  • Develop recommendations for an action plan that ensures water in the Scatter Creek Aquifer is safe to drink now and in the future.
  • Click here for more information about the roles and expectations of the advisory committee members.

Meetings began in the fall of 2012. The committee will meet about once a month, for a total of 8 to 10 meetings until the action plan recommendations are drafted. Click here for more information about the roles and expectations of the advisory committee members.
